Practical skills to apply Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles and strategies to presentations beyond AOD settings where people's are resistant or reluctant to change their behaviours or engage in treatment.

 

This 8 hour live online training program will:

  • Highlight 5 key principles and 4 stages of MI and how these are applied in a variety of contexts.
  • Unpack the cycle of unhelpful behaviours and it's relationship to reduced motivation.
  • Utilise the Stages of Change model to inform intervention options.
  • Support development of realistic and sustainable priorities for intervention, reducing the person's risk of relapse or failure.
  • Consider complementary strategies from other therapeutic frameworks which support MI.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice MI skills and strategies during training and to problem solve common challenges to the application of MI.

Workshop Details:

The workshop runs in online and face-to-face options. Participants will be provided a copy of the workshop slides as well as comprehensive worksheets and handouts. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions during the workshop.

Who Should Attend:

The workshop is suitable for anyone who engages people resistant or ambivalent to changing their behaviours. Participants do not require any prior clinical experience or therapy/counselling training. Participants do not need to work in a clinical setting.
